What We Do

Understand local realities, strengthen enterprises, and create sustainable pathways to improve enterprise ecosystem

At BhaMa Foundation, we are committed to building pathways of resilience, and opportunity for rural and tribal communities. For us, development is about enabling people to strengthen their own livelihoods, preserve their cultural heritage, and create futures that are both sustainable and secure.

In many tribal and forest-based regions, livelihood practices such as farming, forest produce collection, and small-scale processing have long been tied to survival. These communities are rich in traditional knowledge and skills, yet they often operate outside formal markets.

Today, in addition to this, the traditional system is under severe strain. Climate change, resource degradation, and the gradual erosion of indigenous knowledge have weakened the ability of families to rely solely on subsistence activities. Hence, new strategies are required that can help communities transition from vulnerability to resilience.

This is where BhaMa Foundation steps in. We believe that the answer lies in transforming survival-based practices into sustainable micro enterprises. Our role is to act as a bridge linking grassroots producers with resources, knowledge, and markets that can help them thrive in today’s economy.

Our Stakeholders

We work with a diverse range of community-led enterprises that are willing to organise around the natural and agricultural resources available in their regions. Our partners include Self Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Producer Companies and Entrepreneurs who come together to aggregate produce available in their vicinity, improve quality, and gradually move towards value addition and market-oriented enterprises.

Recognising that every group is at a different stage of its journey, we provide tailored handholding to strengthen collective systems, improve post-harvest practices, and build the capacities needed to engage with larger markets. Our approach enables producer groups to transition from selling raw produce to developing sustainable, value-driven enterprises.

Bridging the Gap in Remote Geographies

Our footprint spans tribal, rural, and semi-urban landscapes, frequently reaching deep into remote, underserved regions where distance and connectivity present significant barriers. By anchoring our work in these areas, we empower local producers to aggregate their goods, form enterprise clusters, and unlock premium market access and competitive pricing. Together, we build sustainable ecosystems that drive stronger, more resilient rural economies.
