Field Level Assessment
Identifying Operational Gaps

Field Level Assessment begins with the identification of potential villages and enterprise clusters based on the availability of local resources, existing livelihoods, and the community's involvement in a particular produce or product. Our field team then visits these locations to conduct a detailed assessment that helps us understand production practices, existing capacities, challenges, and market opportunities.
The assessment also identifies entrepreneurs, whether individuals or groups, who have the potential to work collectively towards aggregation, quality improvement, and value addition. By bringing producers together, we help create sufficient volumes that improve market access, strengthen bargaining power, and enable better price realisation.
Our assessments go beyond understanding production alone. They help uncover the structural challenges that prevent enterprises from growing sustainably. In most cases, these challenges fall across five interconnected gaps:
Knowledge Gap: Limited access to reliable guidance on production, quality standards, compliance, costing, branding, and business management.
Skill Gap: Gaps in technical know-how and processing practices that affect product quality, productivity, and consistency.
System Gap: Inadequate infrastructure, common facilities, storage, processing units, and logistical support required for efficient operations.
Supply Chain Gap: Fragmented sourcing, poor aggregation, high transportation costs, and inefficient movement of raw materials and finished products.
Market Linkage Gap: Dependence on local traders and informal markets, with limited access to institutional buyers, organised retail, or digital marketplaces.
The insights gathered through this assessment form the foundation of our intervention strategy. Based on the needs of each cluster, we design customised support that includes technical handholding, enterprise systems, value-chain strengthening, and market linkages.
By addressing these interconnected gaps, we help community enterprises evolve from subsistence-based production to sustainable, competitive, and market-oriented businesses.
